HACCP

HACCP, which stands for Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points, is a risk assessment system for foods.

Companies involved with the preparation, processing, handling, packaging, transport and distribution of foods are required to identify all aspects of the production process and to analyse the risks. This inspection process is intended to ensure that the production process for all foods involves the lowest possible risk of contamination.

HACCP is a system based on principles. Companies are required to tailor the system to their own situation. They examine and identify the stages of the production and/or distribution process that could pose a threat to public health Records are also kept of the measures taken to prevent health hazards, the inspections carried out and their results.

Many people regard rules and procedures such as these as a hindrance. But Merema Transport BV has geared the procedures and methods as closely to each other as possible. That has resulted in the necessary rules and procedures being accepted as a matter of course.

HACCP is a preventative system that is implemented by companies themselves. Identifying and controlling health risks in the preparation and handling processes enhances product safety.

HACCP certified companies are checked every six months or annually to make sure that they are correctly following and implementing the necessary procedures and measures.

Merema Transport BV has been HACCP certified since 2005.
